Classically Catholic: Lumen Christi was founded in 2002 by Edie Fitzgerald and a group of four home-schooling families who wanted a classical Catholic education for their children, which stressed their spiritual development in truth and virtue. It started with roughly 10 students, and today has 100 students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade. Lumen Christi students attend daily Mass, often in Latin, and participate regularly in traditional Catholic devotions, such as Eucharistic Adoration, the Angelus, and the Rosary. Lumen Christi's curriculum has been carefully selected to support its mission. Emphasis is placed on integrating faith into all courses, on reading and discussing great literature, and on rigorous instruction in Math and Science. Students begin studying Latin in 1st grade and continue in Latin all the way through high school.
Accredited: We are accredited by NAPCIS, the National Association of Private Catholic Independent Schools. We were founded with the permission of the Archbishop, but operate as an independent school. Since we do not receive public voucher funding, we are free of governmental and other secular regulations that tend to reduce local control of curriculum. As an independent school, we formulate and monitor our own curriculum in accord with the needs of our school community.
Faith & Reason: We exist to form children in Catholic scholarship and holiness. We promote a traditional environment in both faith and educational philosophy so that the hearts and minds of our students remain open to the timeless heritage of Holy Mother Church without the many distractions and vices that divide the hearts of youth today. Having learned the timeless art of integrating faith and reason, Lumen Christi students are equipped to enlighten the culture with Christian wisdom and contribute meaningfully to their vocational pursuits.
