Communicating Our Uniqueness
One does not have to be a marketing expert to know that promoting a school is about establishing and communicating vision and identity. For schools like Lumen Christi, who lack the funding to engage in lots of paid marketing, it is crucial that the school families understand the school’s unique identity and purpose well enough to communicate it succinctly to others. To that end, Lumen Christi administration and board condensed all of the identity content we’ve written, spoken, and lived over the years into a simple narrative that can be easily shared.
Lumen Christi Catholic School is an independent Catholic K-12 school in downtown Indianapolis. Lumen Christi is both faithfully Catholic and classically inspired. It has a joyful atmosphere and traditional Catholic spirituality that includes daily Mass for all students. Lumen Christi integrates faith and virtue into all aspects of the curriculum, with small classes focused on uplifting reading materials, a simple environment, and a focus on the fundamentals. The entire faculty signs an oath of fidelity to the Magisterium of the Church. We operate with the permission of the Archbishop of Indianapolis, but Lumen Christi forgoes public and parochial funding on which other schools depend in order to preserve the integrity of our mission.
We will start to see this statement more often in our communications. It is not intended to replace our mission statement or any of our previous vision statements. It’s purpose is to provide a manageable summary that we can all easily share with inquirers. Our website, pamphlets, and fundraising materials will incorporate these ideas to insure consistency in “branding.” While there are obvious advantages to defining these distinctives for marketing and promotion, they represent our core values and reinforce our cultural priorities so that we can be who we say we are.
